2021
Here we are!
I think it’s safe to say we are all entering into this year wondering what’s to come. It’s it interesting how we always say phrases like: “You never know what could happen in a year,” but we don’t fully understand the magnitude of what that may entail?
I’ve been thinking a TON about last year at this time. A Facebook memory came up a few days ago that got me all sorts of nostalgic in the oddest way.
A few weeks ago I went snowshoeing with my friends Heather and James. I was disheartened at not being able to go as far as I wanted. James reminded me that last year at this time I couldn’t even hike 2 miles and that was on flat ground!
I didn’t remember the hike he was talking about, then Facebook reminded me. It got me thinking of all has happened since then. Two weeks after that hike I found out I was to have lung surgery. I mean, what on earth was going on with my body!? To this day I STILL pride myself on not having an M.D. because I’m so healthy!
Anyway, enough of that.
I was going to make there a New Year’s recap letter of sorts, but then I got distracted, and rather wowed, by all the FUN I had in 2020!
So you get to go through a walk down memory lane via pictures for now.
Are you ready? (Because I’ve had a lot of goofy, yet relaxed fun this year and I’m over-the-moon thankful for it!)
A couple days before surgery and I convinced Dino-man here to attempt 4 wheeling in costume! Turns out, wind is not our friend on those things!
Fluorescent sumos are great for laughs, games, and having a new outlook on life!
When I found I’d suddenly have to move before surgery and had no job, I desperately prayed: “Lord give me a spa retreat!” He provided.
Complete with a walking path out my door!
Our own spin on a masquerade ball!
A friend set up an online calendar to make sure I had visitors and people to help throughout my recovery. While others were feeling isolated, I was having some wonderful (maybe a little loopy) convos, being shown first-hand the power of community and cared for in the most loving of ways. I wish I could show photos of EVERY single person who helped bathe me (maybe not the photos of me bathing - yikes, ) grocery shopped, brought meals, cleaned my apartment, stayed overnight, got me out, came to visit, dressed in costume to laugh with me, and even those I came to know WHILE recovering. Wow, is our God faithful! I was so concerned about people being afraid to visit or tired of me going through health junk, yet I was reminded over and over of God’s love shown through others!
Getting spoiled in Aspen!
Almost five months post-surgery, I moved to Timnath, Colorado and took a part-time teaching job at a private school. I absolutely love it! I sure miss working with the incredible women of Joy House, but I have been reignited with a joy in teaching. I get to teach first grade, chapel, art classes and P.E. My favorite part is seeing the students’ little hearts expand in learning and in their knowledge and understanding of Jesus!
I’ve known the bride since she cried in disappointment with herself over wetting her pants when potty training. (You’re welcome Calla!)
Florida to celebrate Mike’s birthday, then a small Halloween party!
We were even able to go to Pella for Christmas!
Tonight, as the first day of 2021 comes to an end, I am thankful to be able to look back at a very hard year, while smiling at some very meaningful memories! I hope you’re also able to see some good that came from your year. I’d love to hear about it!
